Joule Heating Analysis on Battery Pack

Thermal Performance for Electric Vehicle Components

Project Overview :

Conducted a comprehensive Joule heating analysis for a leading electronics/battery company in India, focusing on thermal management of a battery pack busbar system for automotive applications. The project simulated real-world operating conditions to evaluate temperature distribution and thermal performance.

Key Contributions :

  • Performed detailed Joule heating analysis across busbar connections using CRADLE CFD (scSTREAM)

  • Implemented time-varying heat sources to accurately simulate dynamic operating conditions

  • Analyzed temperature distribution across battery pack components

  • Developed thermal network models to optimize heat dissipation pathways

  • Incorporated fan modeling to assess active cooling performance

Outcome :

  • Identified potential hot spots and thermal bottlenecks in the battery pack design

  • Provided data-driven recommendations for improving thermal management system efficiency

  • Demonstrated the effectiveness of CFD in predicting real-world thermal behavior

  • Delivered insights that contributed to enhanced battery safety and performance

This project demonstrates advanced capabilities in battery thermal analysis.
